Winterport, Maine -- July 17, 2019 -- Randy Canarr, owner of Souder Station Farm in Winterport, pats Oreo, one of his two sows who just had a litter of eleven piglets. Canarr, who produces pastured pork that he sells at the Hampden Farmers Market and from home, learned that officials from the state will come to his house and pour bleach on 100 pounds of bacon and other specialty smoked items because they were mislabeled by the processor. Canarr is trying to change the rule so that even though he would not be able to sell the mislabeled products, it would not be destroyed and his family could eat it.
