BANGOR, Maine -- 11/03/2016 -- Jade Socoby takes a moment to regain composer before doing a squat workout at Union Street Athletics in Bangor Thursday. Socoby used powerlifting to lose over 130 pounds. "I've never been good at anything. My brother shined in high school with basketball. He was tall and skinny and I was fat and tall," said Socoby. "I was over 320 pounds about three and a half, four years ago.... I want to help women lose weight, I want to help women know it's okay to be strong. You're not going to look like the Hulk if you touch a weight. It's just going to accentuate the frame you have, the curves you have. Every women should at least try it." Ashley L. Conti | BDN
