The freighter Kirsten Skou lies off the Winterport shore as truckload after truckload of potatoes continue to arrive at the new Winterport Docks, Inc. for shipment to France. In the background is Winterport Village. At the time this photo was taken Tuesday, there were 24 tractor-trailer trucks being unloaded or waiting their turn. Four of them are barely visible parked along the town's Main Street, U.S. Rt. 1A. Town officials have told the operators of the docks to try and keep the trucks off Main Street and to stage them at truckstops off the Interstate once the access road leading from Main Street to the dock is filled. Last weekend the line of trucks along Main Street stretched almost from the access road to the Winterport Inn, which is the large two-and-a-half story white building near the top right hand of the picture. The building can be identified as the one with three windows on the attic floor and four windows on the second floor. The church on the inland side of Rt. 1A with the multiple steeple is the Union Meeting House, formerly known as the Winterport Congregational Church, and is listed on the United States Register of National Historic Places.
