BANGOR, MAINE -- 12/12/55 -- Baggage master Ralph Bridges examines a heavy load of incoming mail, which marked the start of the annual Christmas rush, at Bangor's Union Station in this December 1955 file photo. Mail shipments in and out of the city were becoming larger daily, according to postal officials, though the expected seasonal peak was still more than a week away.
