Fog rises from the warm concrete as workers poor the pad for a new grocery store in Holden on Wednesday morning. Greg Hawes co-owner of G&M Variety Market said they are building the new facility to move their current business into a larger area that will allow room to expand their grocery selection. "We will have meat and dairy products and will try to carry local produce as well." Hawes said. The new building — located behind their current business — is expected to be complete this year but they will move to the new location sometime next spring. The old store will be demolished to make room for more parking. Gabor Degre | BDN

Nicholas Mavodones uses pictures and the backdrop of Bayside neighborhood commercial development to illustrate how Portland has attracted investment during his tenure on the City Council and as mayor. Mavodones is running to be popularly elected as mayor of the city on Nov. 8 as the position changes from being chosen by his fellow city councilors to being elected by voters. Seth Koenig | BDN

Their work was displayed at Sweetest Thing Weddings at 48 Columbia Street on Thursday, October 27 as part of the Bare Truth Project Gala.
